Prayer for the caterpillar

About a week ago, Caleb decided he wanted to find a caterpillar and save it in a jar until it formed a chrysalis (big word for my kindergartner), so I braved it out and put the caterpillar in the jar, poked holes and added a branch with leaves. The caterpillar made it all week, but on Saturday we started noticing a white substance growing on its rear abdomen. I just figured it was mold from not making it in the jar. But the kids were determined that it was forming its chrysalis. Yesterday, Caleb finally resigned to the fact that the caterpillar was indeed dead. Chloe however, even still this morning (with the caterpillar on its back) believes it is not dead.

Before lunch yesterday, we began to pray, each of the kids say their own prayer and Chloe started. She began by thanking God for "being in our house" and ended with "please be with our caterpillar that he is not dead". That got Rob and I chuckling beneath our breath. Then it was Caleb's turn and he started like he always does and finished with "be with our dead caterpillar". I looked up to see Chloe mouthing to Caleb, "he is not dead" and Caleb is shaking his head up and down. This went on during Colin's prayer and Rob's, by the end I had tears in my eyes just seeing the seriousness of the two standpoints.
