Update on Colin

Whew...what a start to our summer. I can't believe that we are a month into the summer and I feel like I have completed nothing. Colin has kept us very busy this year. He stared his summer with the trip to Gatlinburg, TN with the Safety Patrol. And a week later (thank goodness) he was in the hospital getting his appendix removed. Our son must be very stoic about pain because he never presented the doubled-over, jumping off the table with rebound pain that is typical of appendicitis. I had more people ask me "well, how did you know that it was his appendix?" Honestly people, we didn't know. That is why we waited 8 hours after his doctor had told us to go the the ER to actually go. (Yes, I feel terrible about that now!) But, Colin never showed signs of being in an unbearable amount of pain. He made it through the surgery and recovery just fine with 3 small incisions on this abdomen. He bounced back immediately with very few complications and was swimming 2 days after he was out of the hospital.

So, hopefully we can keep the other 3 out of the hospital for the rest of the summer and start to enjoy some peaceful family time for the next 2 months.

I'm just like you - I would have waited the 8 hours too, just to be sure a trip to the ER was worth it. Our oldest son had broken his collarbone when he was only a toddler. Of course, we didn't realize it and by the time the doctor had figured out why he was crying every time we picked him up or put him in his car seat harness, it had been 2 weeks and his collarbone had already healed!

So glad to hear he is doing well. Sounds like he's pretty tough! Hang in there, the summer will fly by and hopefully, like you said, without any more incidents.
