A "sitting" job

Our neighbors across from us had asked if Colin would be interested in "sitting" for their dog while they were out of town. It was a wonderful experience for some of us! I spent the week sick as a dog, no pun intended. I truly believe that I have severe animal allergies. We have a cat, but she doesn't seem to bother me. But from the moment, Charlotte, came to our house, I was miserable. Stuffy nose, itchy eyes, sneezing and eventually my asthma kicked in. Colin also showed symptoms of allergies.

Besides all that, Charlotte, was a wonderful dog. The reason I decided to post on this was because as a family, wait...let me restate this, Caleb, had called family meetings to discuss getting a dog, prior to our dog-sitting. We had even visited a shelter twice and looked at a couple of puppies. I felt like I was ready to tackle the puppy stage and the kids seemed eager to help out with the different chores that go along with them. When choosing a dog, the boys wanted one that would go swimming in the lake and play fetch. (A dream dog for the boys!) Well, all of that changed when Charlotte arrived. This dog never wanted to stop playing fetch. Anything, she could find that could be thrown and brought back to one of us, was FUN! At first she would not let go of the ball, but eventually we all hated playing fetch that she would just lay the ball on our laps. My take on this was that I didn't mind playing fetch, but the drool was uncalled for. YUCK!

Needless to say, Charlotte left us on Saturday and the kids have not mentioned getting a puppy yet. Hopefully this worked and we won't have to pull the mom has bad allergies so we can't get one. I don't want to be the fun killer.

She was a great dog, she loved to lay by your feet, she didn't chew up anything, she let you know when she needed to go outside and she was beautiful.

Dogs belong outdoors. With tasks to accomplish. As a former farmgirl, I truly believe this, but few of my friends understand this stance.
