Ok, so for those of you who know me, you will know what I am planning for in 2 weeks. For those of you who read this and don't know me...don't you dare think I am crazy!

So starting July 18th and running through July 26th is one of the Nation's largest 4-H fairs, the Elkhart County 4-H Fair! For 32 years of my life I have been to this fair, for most of those years I was there every day, in those 32 years, I have missed 1 fair and that was last year. I am very excited to go back this year and once again experience the excitement and FOOD of the fair. I have so many wonderful memories from riding rides, showing Holstein dairy cows, participating in the queen pageants and watching the enfamous tractor pull every year! My biggest regret is knowing that my children will never know the experience of raising animals to show at the fair. It is very painful for me! But I will pass on the opportunity of knowing what the fair is and what an important part it has in my life.
Back to the food though, let me tell you they serve up the best of the best there. I have to say my favorite is the Taco Salad. Followed closely by the soft serve ice cream from Dairy Bar's I & II, then there is Tom Thumb donuts, fried veggies and cheese, and Port-a-Pit chicken (only because I don't live there anymore and I can't smell it every weekend in some parking lot around the county). I LOVE THAT SMELL! Let me add that the grandstand entertainment is great this year too! The entertainers this year are...Nicole Mullen, Kellie Pickler, Little Big Town and Hootie and the Blowfish! They have brought in some good ones this year!!
My sister, Tara, and I make the trip together with our families just for the fair. It is a great week spent with my family reminiscing about past fairs and family traditions, like the parade!
So, after an exhausting week at the fair, my family will take a trip a little further south to Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee with Rob's family. That will be a week of boating, jet skiing, and tubing on the lake. I am really excited about this trip too! It is always a very fun week and it is so great to be with family.
These two weeks are spent with both of my families and to me I wouldn't want to be anywhere else these two weeks with anybody else! Now I just have the stress of packing and planning for 2 weeks of vacations!

I'm so jealous! I miss the 4-H fair too. Eat some Taco Salad for me. The slush puppies are good too. I have only found one place here in NH that sells them. The Port-a-pit chicken is delicious. Mmm. I can smell it now. I'm getting hungry.

I don't know if they had the sirloin tips when you lived here, but they are now the #1 favorite here. Insider tip - don't eat them during meal times or the line can be over an hour long. Go late morning or mid-afternoon when the line isn't as overwhelming. $10 but worth every penny

And look me up! We will be spending a lot of time in the beef barn. Just look for the Nicole Flickinger sign or all the Wisler steers (we are being penned together) and I am sure you will be able to find someone who knows where I am. I would love to see you!

I love the grilled cheese sandwiches at the dairy bar.

Give me a call if you drive through K-town again!
