Begin soap box...
I started our school shopping last weekend, since it was Tax-Free weekend in South Carolina. I am not saving a ton of money, but it feels good. Anyways, as I was shopping I realized something about my children's clothing. It is very unsettling the graphics on kids t-shirts.
I am very excited that as Colin enters 6th grade in a middle school there is a required dress code. He has to wear solid colored polo shirts, with NO pockets, emblems, or logos on the shirt. This is great, and I am glad that stores are moving past the basic navy and white for shirts. We actually found orange, red, blue and green. For pants, he has to wear any shade of brown khakis and/or navy blue. They can be shorts or long pants, but there can't be any logos on the pockets. All shirts have to be tucked in and he has to wear a belt! Oh, and the pants have to be worn at the natural waist line. Well, since Colin doesn't have a "natural" waist because he has no butt, this should be interesting. The reason I am so excited about this dress code...Colin will finally be able to dress himself EVERY morning! He has matching issues since I would just go in a lay out his clothes everyday for him. He is getting better so I will give him credit, but this should be very good for him.
Now I do have issues with Caleb and the clothing choices for him. I have chose not to buy the clothes with characters, ugly graphics or absurd statements on them. I know there are lots of parents out there that agree, but not only are you making statements about you as a parent, but also what the shirts are saying about your child or their siblings. These clothing choices should just be eliminated from stores. Don't get me wrong, some of them fit my kids personalities perfectly and some of them are down right funny.
To sum this all up, and I will soon get off my soap box, Colin received a perfect shirt a couple of months ago, it says..."If you can't say anything nice"...it has an outlined smiley face with gray tape over its mouth. I think that is perfect!

I found you! I KNOW what you mean about the clothing issues. What aggravates me is the movie character clothing/toys that are targeted at young boys, but yet the movies are completely inappropriate/too mature for a 5 yr old! Jonah was practically begging for a "Dark Knight" t-shirt at Target last night, but I resisted!! It's ok for him to like Batman, sure, but he has a hard time understanding why he is not allowed to see the movie. Anyway, that's my rant. I love your blog! Have a great day!
